Guess I'm not the only one who thinks that software patents are broken and harmful to innovation.
Check out this book by professors from Brandeis and Harvard: Innovation and Its Discontents: How Our Broken Patent System is Endangering Innovation and Progress, and What to Do About It:The United States patent system has become sand rather than lubricant in the wheels of American progress.
Then there is this report from PriceWaterhouseCoopers: Rethinking the European ICT agenda (1.8M PDF), see paragraph 342 on page 50. (An aside: This report numbers every paragraph per section -- I haven't seen this before and I like it.)
