Goal |
Put it all back together
Step 1 |
Put the steering wheel back on the center post. Be
careful to align the wheel on the post so the marks you made when
you removed it line up. Be sure to thread the yellow airbag cable
through the upper opening in the steering wheel. |
Step 2 |
Put on the center nut with a 19mm wrench. Tighten down as much
as you can do by hand, but don't over do it.
If you have a torque wrench, the spec. is 37 ft-lbs (50 Nm; 65
kgf-cm). We did it by hand.
Step 3 |
Plug the other end of the blue horn wire back onto
the tab on the steering wheel frame. Plug in the cruise control plug. |
Step 4 |
Place the airbag screws back in place in their nylon holders in
the steering wheel.
Again, if you have the tools, the torque spec. is 78 in-lbs (5.8
Nm; 90 kgf-cm). Again, we did it by hand.
Step 5 |
Pick up the airbag, reattach the yellow cable to the back, and then
place the airbag assembly in place into the steering wheel. |
Step 6 |
Screw down the airbag screws, pushing in as you turn. Replace the
small circular plastic covers: they just press into place. |
Step 7 |
Reattach the 12 volt battery cable. Replace the plastic retaining
bracket (two bolts), and the carpeted cover, (three plastic pop-rivets). |
Step 8 |
Start the car. Check the horn. Press the "On" switch on the
cruise control switch: The "cruise" light on the dash should
come on. Yay!
Step 9 |
If you haven't already, now is the time to read the section on
cruise control in the owner's manual that came with the car.
Go for a short test drive. Check that the steering wheel is on
straight. Try out the cruise control. Note: cruise control will
not operate below 23 MPH.
Step 10 |
Reset the clock in the center of the dash. Reenter
all your AM and FM radio stations presets. |

Congratulations: Cruise control is installed! |
