Goal |
There is a white "molex" type plug on the end of the cruise
control switch (the 'new' plug). This plug will connect to the same place
where the existing plug on the end of the blue horn wire (the 'old' plug)
goes. The wire and the metal pin inside the plug need to be removed from
the old plug and inserted into the the new plug.
The new plug has a plastic retaining clip that has not been pressed fully
down into place. Don't press it down yet.
Do this work on well lighted work table in a calm place. No screaming
kids around, no heavy metal music. This is delicate work.
|
Step 1 |
Remove the blue horn wire from the car by pulling on the plug. You'll
need to press on the release tab on the underside. You removed the
other end of this wire from the steering wheel earlier. A tiny screwdriver
used as a helper to depress the tab works nicely. |
|
|
Step 2 |
|
Note very carefully where the wire goes in relation to the plug.
Look at both this plug and the new plug on the end of the cruise control
switch. Imagine the blue wire in the new plug. Make a little pen mark
on the side of the new plug that the blue wire is to go into. Trust
us, it's worth doing! |
|
Step 3 |
On the old plug, pry open the retaining clip with a small knife.
The retaining clip is the comb-like piece of plastic on one side
of the plug.
If you accidentally closed the retaining clip on the new plug,
pry it open now. Be gentle with this one, you have to close it again
later.
|
|
|
Step 4 |
Push a very thin nail into the plug hole. This will press down on
small metal tab on the connector pin inside to release it. |
|
|
Step 5 |
Pull, backing the wire out very gently. You may need a little downward
force on the nail. As the wire comes out, carefully note the orientation
of the connector pin with respect to the plug. |
Step 6 |
Push the connector pin into the new plug. You marked where it has to go
back in step 2, right? Right?? Be sure it is oriented the same way as it
came out. You should hear a small click as it seats into place. |
Step 7 |
Press the retaining clip on the new plug down flat. |
|
|
Done |
The cruise control switch now has the blue horn wire hanging off
its plug. |
